Chowder is a cat-bear-rabbit mix and lives in Mung Daal's Catering where he is Mung's apprentice. Chowder wants to become a great chef, but his insatiable appetite usually gets in the way. Chowder loves to eat, which oftens includes the customer's food. Kimchi is Chowder's pet fart.
Overview[]
In Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion XL, Chowder is a starter character paired with Kimchi (who always stays to the left of Chowder's position on screen) and has many generic melee attacks and disgusting moves like burping, and throwing around Kimchi. His in-game bio notes that Chowder can jump several times in the air, very helpful for not dying off stage.
Basic Strategy[]
Pros[]
- Only command grab in the game
- Multi-jumps; good aerial maneuverability
- Though Chowder is for the most part mid-ranged, it is complimented well with his aerial mobility.
Cons[]
- Punch Time Explosion is weak
- Lacks a proper projectile
- Low knockback power
Chowder has decent mobility thanks to his multiple jumps. Compared to other characters, his damage output is slightly below average and his speed is nothing to brag about. Though his attacks do have great coverage, complimenting his aerial mobility well.
Chowder comes equipped with the only command grab in the game. Due to this unique trait that no other character possesses and esentially serving as a grab that can be used in the air with longer range, it can be abused quite heavily. It is possible to do "food chains" which is using the command grab, jumping forward and using the command grab again as a combo similar to Blossom's use of ice breath. In addition, Chowder is also the only character to do a different move when trying to attack/grab out of shield, being the command grab.
Chowder's other moves aren't equally as abusable as the command grab but still have great usage. Up knockout sends opponents directly above Chowder allowing him to follow with his up signature. Up signature has a large hitbox that covers more space than Chowder himself making it a very safe move to go through other attacks. It also has a very short duration, making it fast and easy to follow up with the same move when the opponent comes back down. Down signature and neutral signature are powerful moves with great coverage and have very minimal endlag making them easy to follow up. Down knockout is Chowder's slowest attack but is also his earliest kill move.
Chowder's aerials are quite short and have poor damage output. Neutral aerial is almost entirely useless and very unsafe to use. Up aerial can combo with itself a few times, and followed up with an up signature. Side and down aerial push the opponent away, which can be followed up with neutral, side, or down signatures.
Chowder has a relatively weak Punch Time Explosion attack that has quite possibly the lowest knockback of all Punch Time Explosions in the game, and acts as a glorified projectile with a cool cutscene. When using Punch Time Explosion, Chowder wants to hit the pepper projectile mostly, which will kill at high percents (estimate of 200%). The fire portion of it sees little to no use as it does jab/minimal knockback making it shieldable during use. In addition due to players restoring all jumps after getting hit it doesn't work very well as an edge guard either.
Bio[]
A cat, bear, and rabbit mix, Chowder is an apprentice to chef Mung Daal. Chowder wants to become a great chef, but his insatiable appetite usually gets in the way. This kid straight up likes to eat, which often includes the customer's food. By the way, Kimchi is Chowder's pet fart... Yeah, the show is that funny. In fact, the show is so good that it was honored with an emmy in 2009.
In PTE, Chowder can jump several times in the air, very helpful to avoid falling off an arena.
Bio Stats[]
- Speed: 3/5
- Power: 3/5
- Air: 5/5
- Range: 3/5
Explanation[]
These stats are provided in the game in character bios. They do not affect gameplay at all and can sometimes be misleading or need an explanation.
- Chowder is a fast character but a few of his attacks can be slow.
- Chowder has very average damage and knockback power.
- Chowder can jump many times in the air (a total of 3 jumps midair, and 4 counting jumps from ground) and has a decently strong up signature. While he can recover a great distance his aerials are incredibly weak and have little coverage, though they are a bit on the faster side. 3/5 would be a better reflection of air.
- Chowder can space out opponents with the use of Kimchi, knockout attacks, and his inhale move.
Movelist[]
Normal Attacks[]
- Neutral: Does a headbutt (1%), belly bop (2%), then claps (4%, creates 1 power cube).
- 3DS version: Does two alternating kicks ending with a headbutt.
- Running: Chowder rushes forward headfirst. Deals 6% and creates 1 power cube.
- Up: Licks upward with his stretched out tounge. Deals 5% and creates 1 power cube.
- Down:Licks across the ground in front of him with his stretched out tounge. Deals 8% and creates 2 power cubes.
- Throw: Chowder reaches out both arms. Deals 4% when thrown.
Knockout Attacks[]
- Side: Chowder burps forward. Deals 13%~19% uncharged~charged. Creates 3 power cubes at 13% and 4 at 14% and above.
- Up: Chowder's tounge grows possibly as long as it can go and licks upward. Deals 12%~17% uncharged~charged. reates 3 power cubes at 12%~13%, and 4 power cubes above 14%.
- Down: Chowder hops up and burps downward. Deals 17%~25%. uncharged~charged. Creates 4 power cubes.
Aerial Attacks[]

Signature Attacks[]
Neutral: Kimchi Throw
- Chowder quickly tosses Kimchi forward a fair distance, causing Kimchi to make a fart explosion. Deals 8% and creates 2 power cubes.
Side: Swallow
- Chowder opens his mouth and sucks in opponents nearby. If an opponent is caught, they get eaten by Chowder. Chowder then spits the opponent back out. Deals 15% damage and doesn't create any power cubes.
- Oddly instead of grabbing, Chowder will use this move once grab is pressed during shield.
- This move acts as a command grab. As a result, it goes through shields.
- However, Flapjack and Samurai Jack's counter will work against this move.
- In addition invulnerable moves such as Vilgax's shield will ignore Chowder's eat unless it ends before Chowder's eat ends.
- In the case of Kevin's neutral signature, both moves will clash.
Up: Chowder Spin
- Spins with Kimchi upward in a purple aura. Deals 13% and creates 3 power cubes.
Down: Kimchi Slam
- Chowder hops and throws Kimchi downward causing a dirty-colored fart quake explosion around him. Deals 11% and creates 2 power cubes.
Punch Time Explosion: Pepper Breath[]
Chowder sees a large chili pepper and eats it. However the pepper is very spicy, thus causing Chowder to belch a stream of fire and an enlarged pepper damaging anyone who is in front of him. The burp/fire Chowder does currently outputs incalculable weak damage, while the pepper deals 10%.
In the 3DS version, he instead, finds a wad of ingredients to toss into a boiling pot, but eats it all up, then burps all around him.
Synergy: Madame Foster[]
Madame Foster offers Chowder a giant plate of cookies and Chowder eats it all. This causes him to grow incredibly obese which gives Madame Foster the idea to hop on top of Chowder and roll him around like a logroller. During this state Chowder is invulnerable and can be controlled. Anyone who touches Chowder will take 18% damage. Creates 4 power cubes.
It is currently unknown how but computers have demonstrated the ability to use a specially designed up signature during this state.

Trivia[]
- Chowder & Kimchi are one of the only three duo characters in the game.
- The other two being Mac & Bloo and Billy & Mandy.
- Oddly, Chowder has more than 2 jumps for seemingly no reason. This is likely to draw parallels to Kirby in Super Smash Bros. (although Chowder resembles Wario more moveset wise). Both characters have more jumps than average, have similar inhaling animations, and pull out a pot in their super attack (at the time of release).
- While Chowder is often compared to Kirby, his moveset truly reflects Wario more than Kirby. Chowder and Wario have a similar up special, side aerial, neutral aerial, use farting attacks (in the case of Chowder, Kimchi), and Chowder's side signature can't "copy abilities" or "swallow" like Kirby's inhale and acts more closely to Wario's bite or King De De De's inhale
- Oddly, the pepper in Chowder's Punch Time Explosion will completely ignore shields at certain distances (similar distance to Final Boss player 1 and player 2 spawns) and hit regardless of whether the opponent was shielding or not. This phenomenon is known as the "BS shield break angle."
