Monkey is Dexter's Lab monkey, who secretly has superpowers, unbeknownst to Dexter, who often tries to give him powers via unusual experimentation. Monkey is considered the planet's greatest superhero.
Overview[]
In Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion XL, Monkey is an unlockable, unlocked by winning 18 matches or completing Dexter 1 in story mode. His in-game bio states Monkey is one of the fastest characters in the game and gains the ability to fly when his PTE is activated. This statement refers to his run speed, which is one of the fastest in the game.
Monkey however, remains one of the laggiest characters in the game moveset wise and easily gets outsped by many characters making Monkey hard to use effectively. Monkey combats this slow speed with great melee range, however this range counts as a hurtbox similar to Mac and Bloo and he possess no projectile which evidently holds him back from performing as well.
Strategy[]
Pros[]
- Decent range
Cons[]
- Sluggish attack speed
- Range and overall moveset can be heavily exploited; lacks a projectile
- Mediocre recovery
Bio[]
Monkey is Dexter's pet who secretly has superpowers (even Dexter is unaware of this). Monkey works for a global agency that protects the Earth from both domestic and intergalactic villains and disasters. In one episode, Last but not Beast, Dexter learns of his pet's true identity, but soon forgets when his memory is erased.
In PTE, Monkey is one of the fastest characters in the game, and gains the ability to fly when his PTE is activated.
Bio Stats[]
- Speed: 5/5
- Power: 2/5
- Air: 4/5
- Range: 2/5
Explanation[]
These stats are provided in the game in character bios. They do not affect gameplay at all and can sometimes be misleading or need an explanation.
- Monkey's speed is overrated by the developers as Monkey has consistently laggy moves across the board, to the point where punching effects may come out before any hitboxes do. 2/5 would be a better reflection of speed in this aspect.
- The developers likely refer to his run speed. In that aspect, Monkey is one of the fastest characters, just behind the Powerpuff Girls.
- Monkey has somewhat poor killing power, but damage dealt should be relatively average. 3/5 would be a better reflection of power.
- Monkey's aerials are pretty average but are held back by his slow speed at times. His recovery is also quite mediocre and in addition is heavily exploitable. 2/5 would be a better reflection of air. The bio mentions Monkey's ability to fly during his PTE which likely affected the bio score.
- While Monkey's hitboxes are awkward and are melee moves to begin with, his arms are very long and reach an impressive range akin to Captain K'nuckles.
Movelist[]
Normal Attacks[]
- Neutral: Monkey flips, hitting opponents twice (or three times if directly over your opponent) dealing 1% per hit, Monkey then spins around hitting with his tail (2%), and back flips, kicking ahead (4%, creates 1 power cube)
- This is the slowest neutral attack in the game and is advised against.
- Running: Monkey front flips ahead a distance. Intended as a multi-hit but wasn't coded properly. Deals 4% and creates 1 power cube.
- Up: Monkey punches his right arm above him. Deals 7% and creates 1 power cube.
- This tilt has decent range and can actually be used in a few combos.
- Down: Monkey punches his right arm across the ground. Deals 8% and creates 2 power cubes.
- Throw: Monkey reaches out both arms in front of him. Deals 4% when thrown.
Knockout Attacks[]
- Side: Monkey claps in front of him. Deals 14%~20% uncharged~charged and creates 4 power cubes.
- Up: Monkey punches his right arm, then left arm above him. Deals 12%~17% uncharged~charged. Creates 3 power cubes at 12%~13% and creates 4 power cubes above 14%.
- Down: Monkey slams both fists on the ground. Deals 15%~22% uncharged~charged and creates 4 power cubes.
Aerial Attacks[]
- Neutral: Monkey spins around, swinging his arms out. Deals 4% per hit and creates 1 power cube per hit. The damage is constant, being capable of dealing 28% in a single use.
- Side: Monkey punches both arms forward. Deals 9% and creates 2 power cubes
- Up: Monkey punches both arms upward. Deals 10% and creates 2 power cubes
- Down: Monkey punches both arms downward. Deals 11% and creates 2 power cubes
Signature Attacks[]
Neutral: Monkey Punch
- Monkey punches forward and an energy in the shape of a fist extends outwards. Deals 15% and creates 4 power cubes.
- This move also stops Monkey in place when in air, stopping all trajectory as Monkey very slowly falls during the move.
Side: Monkey Spin
- Monkey handstands and splits both of his legs out horizontally while spinning around making a wacky sound effect. Deals 7% and creates 1 power cube.
- This multi-hit wasn't coded right, resulting in fewer hits than possibly intended. However, it still has traces of multi-hit properties, dealing a great amount of shield damage.
Up: Monkey Leap
- Monkey surrounds his hands in a bright energy and flips while going above him. Deals 13% and creates 3 power cubes.
- One of the most exploitable moves to "gimp" in the game as clashing with this move at a specific time results in Monkey gaining so much height that he gets KO'd from above.
Down: Monkey Force
- Monkey stomps as a bright energy surrounds his body and hands. Deals 13% and creates 3 power cubes.
Punch Time Explosion: Monkey Flight[]
Monkey starts to screech and pound his fists, but then takes a meditating stance and unleases his power. He then flies in the air, damaging those who touch him for 20%. At the end of it he causes a small energy explosion dealing 30%.
Due to Monkey's long horizontal range and somewhat powerful knockback this move can be used as if it were a blast super (hit opponent when they are directly above). Otherwise as a freemovement it is decent and works with PTE dancing but if the opponent happens to land and shield, it can be hard to readjust due to the long horizontal hitbox getting negated.
Synergy: Numbuh Two[]
Numbuh 2 flies his plane, and Monkey jumps on it from a building. While he is obstructing Numbuh 2's view, the plane goes out of control and hurts opponents in contact.
